Personal Greeting Cards
These cards are shared with friends and relatives to send the traditional wishes of health, happiness and prosperity for the Lunar New Year.
The style mimics traditional Chinese paper cuts, but the final art is created digitally. As the cycle is twelve years long, the style has changed over time. Some of the earlier designs were simple layers of shapes and clip-art patterns assembled with InDesign. In later designs, all elements (borders, corner elements, and backgrounds) were created in Illustrator. While the earlier cards were black-and-white only, the addition of color marks the more recent designs.
Below: the design as used on packaging for M&M candies in the lucky colors of red and gold. The candies were custom-printed with traditional good wishes and the Chinese character for ”luck.“
