”Choking“ Poster, Postcard, Newspaper Ad and Program
“CHOKING” wove together the performer‘s artistic journey, motivations, and family history into a mixed-media performance which included a gallery of written journal excerpts and a lifetime of ephemera, as well as small group events with the audience. Together, these elements gave a greater layer of understanding and depth to the show.
The promotional pieces included a poster, postcards, half sheets and newspaper ads. In reference to the importance of the hand fan in Japanese culture, and to its place in the artist‘s performance, the program was designed in the form of a folding fan. These fans added a distinctive and tactile element in keeping with the highly personal nature of the performance. Major photography: Joni Shimabukuro
